TLC Laser Eye Centers is North America’s leading laser eye surgery provider. They offer first-class laser eye treatments at over 50 locations across the US and Canada. Their specialized doctors have performed more than 2.2 million LASIK procedures combined in the last 20 years. Patients who choose TLC receive a lifetime commitment to help them maintain the best possible vision.
Dr. Karl Stonecipher, Medical Director of TLC Laser Eye Centers Greensboro, has practiced refractive ophthalmology in North Carolina since 1987. He himself has performed more than 77,000 procedures.
The web-based IBRA Digital Health Suite manufactured by Zubisoft aims for the best possible integration of technologies used in eye surgery, with an easy-to-use and fast interface for intuitive eye data management.
The IBRA Refractive Services provides TLC’s surgeons with a range of customized options to make data access and analysis of refractive treatments quick and easy. Dr. Stonecipher notes its user-friendly interface, saying, “The ease of data entry and the multiple options for data analysis make this software user friendly. Also, the fact that you can use it from any location that has access to the web (including your phone) is an additional benefit.”
Surgeons also get a better understanding of the surgery required and are able to adjust their treatments and improve patients’ outcomes and satisfaction.
A frequent author, Dr. Stonecipher has published more than a hundred articles and book chapters. He presents regularly at international congresses about his surgical experience and on recent developments in refractive, cataract, presbyopic and corneal surgeries. He uses IBRA to produce graphs and figures to illustrate his presentations. “What attracted me to IBRA was the additional benefit that all of the graphs are essentially universal,” says Dr. Stonecipher. “I can use them in scientific papers, at meetings, and for publication in the lay press.”
In the process of getting informed consent, Dr. Stonecipher uses IBRA to provide patients with clear and understandable forecast on outcomes. “I also readily use the outcomes analysis to show patients our current outcomes from my iPad.”
It is important to Dr. Stonecipher to have access to state-of-the-art technology in the process of delivering the highest standards in eye care. New IBRA developments and innovations address the changing needs of surgeons, adding new features and functionalities regularly, and Dr. Stonecipher anticipates a further evolution ahead: “As time improves the software and its ease of use, I see me using the software from my smart phone when planning surgical treatments or IOL calculations in difficult patients such as post-refractive cataract surgery patients. I would hope to see it incorporated into the laser systems so we can get real time data analysis by adding postoperative data at the 3 months visit and have that update my laser nomograms and treatment algorithms through wireless synchronization. That's where we are headed for the future and the future is looking bright.”
